Kota Kinabalu Flights Guide

Kota Kinabalu, MalaysiaKota Kinabalu is the capital city of the Sabah region of Borneo. Although a part of Malaysia, the culture and vibe is completely different on Borneo as to that on the Malaysian mainland.

There are some fine beaches within easy reach of Kota Kinabalu. It is also a major gateway for accessing the fantastic Kota Kinabalu National Park, with its soaring Mount Kinabalu. Even if you do not want to climb the mountain, its jagged peak amongst the low lying clouds is a great sight to see. There are some wonderful trekking opportunities in the national park, as well as pretty waterfalls, and other natural delights. If you are lucky, you may spot a rafflesia flower – the biggest flower in the world that only stays in bloom for a matter of days.

A handful of cultural villages can be reached conveniently and easily from the city centre, including the interesting and informative Monsopiad Cultural Centre. You can enjoy good views of the city from the lookout point above the Anderson Clock Tower.

There are lively markets where you can purchase a range of great souvenirs and handicrafts.

There are numerous places to stay in Kota Kinabalu, and, whilst they may be slow at times and subject to delays, there are frequent bus services to other parts of the region. Taxis are available. There is an airport in Kota Kinabalu, and people may also arrive and depart by ferry.
