Thailand's island of Koh Samui is a popular tropical retreat. It is situated off the coast of Surat Thani Province. It is a fairly large island that attracts a very diverse selection of guests.
One of the main draws of Koh Samui is its pristine sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. There are several different beaches, each one offering something a little bit different. Chaweng Beach is the longest, and offers great diving. The second largest beach is Lamai Beach, with picturesque views.
Beautiful beaches line the island's edges, each one offering a slightly different vibe. Accommodation, places to eat and drink, and a range of activities, are easily accessible from each beach. You can enjoy stunning sunsets from the quieter Taling Ngam Beach and Phang Ka Bay. Thong Krut Bay and Bophut Beach allow visitors to take a peek at traditional fishing villages, and Choengmon Beach is very peaceful. Na Thon Bay, Big Buddha Beach, and Maenam Beach are also nice.
Golf is a popular recreational activity on the island. Visitors can also enjoy diving, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, riding on a jetski, sailing, paintballing, ATV driving, and elephant trekking. There are numerous spas and wellness centres across the island. Amongst Koh Samui's attractions are the Big Buddha Temple, a snake farm, waterfalls, unusual rock formations, and the Secret Buddha Garden. Trips to other islands are popular.
The night life on Koh Samui is extensive. Enjoy a fire show on the beach, party at a disco, relax in a beach bar, sing at karaoke, and more.
The island is crammed with luxury hotels. There are also a few backpacker options and smaller guest houses.
The island can be reached by air, although most passengers will need to change flights before flying to the island. Ferries also link Koh Samui to other islands as well as the mainland. On the island there are many taxis and small passenger trucks.
