Hyderabad Flights Guide

Hyderabad, IndiaMany cities will claim to offer a mixture of the traditional and the modern, yet there are few places where this contrast is more alive than Hyderabad. One of the largest and richest of India's former princely states, the old city is scattered with ancient tombs, mosques, palaces, and monuments. While its history is still very much present, this city now also rivals Bangalore as India's IT capital, home to the Indian headquarters of both Google and Microsoft.

Hyderabad offers a decent bus service, or it's also possible to travel by autorickshaw or taxi. Keep in mind that traffic is almost always congested, and it takes a long time to get just about anywhere in the city.

The most fascinating attractions can be found south of the River Musi, including the Salar Jung Museum, which is easily one of the most outstanding private collections in India. The museum displays Prime Minister Salar Jung's massive collection, gathered from all over the world, and spanning from medieval to modern. There's also the city's most famous monument, the Charminar, a massive 16th-century arch with four towering minarets. The area around the Charminar is filled with bazaars and packed with people. The Golconda Fort, the capital of the Qutb Shahi Kingdom, is also not to be missed, as well as the Qutb Shahi Tombs.

Hyderabad is also well-known for its delicious cuisine, which features rich, spicy, aromatic dishes. The most popular cooking method is called dum, which describes slowly heating a pot of basmati rice and either meat or vegetables. Hyderabad Biryani, a meat-and-rice dish, is one of the city's most famous meals. Hyderabad also offers a vibrant nightlife scene, with many good drink deals available in local pubs, and clubs filling up with lively crowds on Thursday and Friday nights.

Hyderabad is famous for its pearls, with a supposed 9 out 10 of the world's pearls traveling through this city at some point for piercing and stringing. It's possible to find exceptional craftsmanship in this area, but it's best to shop cautiously because there are a lot of fakes on the market as well.
