Verona Holidays Overview
Best known for its ‘star crossed lovers’, Verona is an inescapably romantic city, and the thousands of visitors that flood to see Juliet’s balcony year after year show that the relevance of Shakespeare’s characters lives on. Located in Northern Italy, the original layout of Verona is distinctly Roman, although much of the city was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1117. Its position at the mouth of the Adige River Valley made it a target for numerous invaders until it joined the united Italy in 1866. With an atmospheric old town, a compact centre, and a beautiful location, alongside many cultural gems, Verona is an ideal place for a weekend break. It experiences an unusual mix of weather conditions, and rain is frequent so come prepared. The summer opera season is a busy time for the city so book accommodation in advance.
