Tawau Holidays Overview
Tawau is in the Tawau State of the Sabah region of Malaysia. It is the third largest town in Sabah. It faces the Celebes Sea to its east and there are mountain ranges to its west. It begun as a small village and traded with the Dutch. It was an area rich in Indian rubber, ivory and tortoise shells. It was under Japanese control during the second world war as much of Borneo. The city has a population of about 400, 000 people. Out of these the majority are Bugis and Chinese. The rest are Malays as well as a few minority ethnic groups. There is a large illegal immigrant population mainly from the Philippines. Being close to the equator, the area enjoys warm temperatures all year round but as is common with this region, tropical monsoonal is quite common.
