Tamworth is an inland city in the New England region of NSW, 500 km north of Sydney, and 600 km south of Brisbane. Tamworth has a population of about 36 000, and is a prosperous regional city. For many people Tamworth is seen as Australia's Country Music Capital.
One of the town's main industries is agricultural with wines, olives and berries all being produced. Tamworth is also a famous equine city, with many horse organizations based here, along with many horse racing events and horse breeding studs.
As well as farming, country music, and horses, Tamworth is also home to many educational facilities including a University, TAFEs, and Conservatorium of Music. There are also art galleries and museums for those seeking a little culture.

Tamworth Country Music Festival runs for 10 days each January and has about 4 000 performances. This festival has Tamworth pumping with the population growing to over 100 000. About three quarters of the performances are free. You do not need to pay a daily fee or wear a wristband. You just grab the daily guide and turn up. The 120 venues can bars, restaurants, and hotels to the riverbank, and Peel St for the buskers.
