Steamboat Springs (Hayden) Holidays Overview
Routt County Colorado, has a population of roughly 22,000 people. It is more or less divided evenly between urban and rural dwellers. Ninety-five percent of the inhabitants are white. Slightly over 1 % are aboriginal peoples to the area and 3% Latin American. Routt County is in the northwestern part of the state. There are several lakes, streams and parks here. Steamboat Springs is a ski resort destination in the area. Two hot springs bathing locations are located here. One has had slides installed and the other has been maintained with its natural features. In the early 19th Century, trappers began to settle in the area which was already inhabited by the Ute aboriginal people. Ranchers came close behind and by late in the century the Natives were forced out. Skiing was a principle means of travel in the harsh winter months. It was not until the 1960s that ski resorts began to open here to attract winter tourists. In the summer months the Yampa River also attracts sports aficionados drawn to kayaking, rafting, tubing and fishing. This is the largest of Colorado’s 64 counties. There are abundant parks here and scenic locations. There are also dozens of historic locations throughout Steamboat Springs and the county as a whole.
