Skopje Holidays Overview

The capital of the Republic of Macedonia, located at the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, Skopje is an exciting blend of contemporary and traditional. It is located on the Vardar River at a crucial crossroads between Europe and the Middle East. Much of the city of Skopje was destroyed by an earthquake in 1963, but it was quickly rebuilt around the remains of the railroad terminal, which remains as a memorial to those who died. A broken clock marks the time of the earthquake. Skopje is located in a mountainous region, with Mount Vodno to the south along with the massif of Mount Jakupica, with its highest peak Solunska Glava reaching over two and a half thousand metres. The Skopje valley is dominated by the Kale Fortress.
