Sibu Holidays Overview
Sibu is a city in the Sarawak State of Malaysia. It is situated where the Rajang and Igan Rivers meet about 60 kilometres from the Indian ocean. It currently has the larges town square in all of Malaysia. The original name of Sibu was New Foochow. This was in reference to the Foochow immigrants who settled here from Fujian province of China The Foochow immigrants settled upon the invitation of Sir Charles Brooke in the early 20th Century. At the time Sir Brooke was the “Rajah” (governor) of Sarawak which he ruled as his personal kingdom. The city of Sibu has a population of just over 200, 000 people. The majority of the population are descendants of immigrant Chinese as well ethnic Malays. As result of being located along the equator, Sibu experiences warm weather all year round with average temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius. Tropical monsoonal rainfall is common throughout the year.

Direct flights from Australian cities to Sibu are currently not available. However one can connect via the Malaysian Capital, Kuala Lumpur, by Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Alitalia, Philippine Airlines and Qantas. The major departure cities in Australia are Melbourne, Gold Coast, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.
