Saskatoon Holidays Overview

Saskatoon is located in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan in the southwestern part of this country. With roughly 220,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city in the province. Located on the South Saskatchewan River, it is one of this northern nationís sunniest cities. Its economy has a strong focus on bio-tech agriculture. It is at the heart of the province that produces half of Canadaís agricultural exports.

The area was first inhabited some 6,000 years ago. Various museumís here pay tribute to different aspects of the long history of human habitation here. The city was incorporated in 1906, only 20 years after the first settlers arrived. Today, this city has the largest urban population of aboriginal peoples of any Canadian metropolis.

In the summer, the climate does not usually rise higher than 24 degrees Celsius. The winters can get quite cold however. In 2007, the city had its worst blizzard that residents remember, with winds reaching 90 km/hour. The city and its surroundings are fairly flat. Seventeen bus routes traverse the area and run frequently. There is a train station here connecting this city with the rest of Canada, as well as two airports. Three taxi companies service the small city.

The city is home to various art galleries, live theatre and a symphony Orchestra, as well as several cinemas for entertainment. There are several major concert venues that seat upwards of 10,000 people. With several universities and colleges there are various sporting events. Hockey is the most popular team sport. There are various several recreational facilities and pools. These include an indoor driving range.

There are nearly a dozen shopping centres in and around the city. A casino and racetrack are both frequented by local gamblers. There are perhaps 75 dining out options of varied cuisines. There are also a few dozen bars and clubs and at least 15 locations offering accommodations within the city.
