Sandakan Holidays Overview
The city of Sandakan is the second largest city in the Sabah State in Eastern Malaysia. Located on the eastern side of Borneo, the city was once the capital of British North Borneo. It is also famous for having been the site where the Japanese army sent Australian prisoners of war on death marches during world war two. These marches were a series of forced marches from Sandakan to Ranau. The city currently has a population of just under 500, 000 inhabitants. It is currently suffering from an illegal immigrant problem. After Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan is Sabah’s second most important city. The weather is pleasant all year round due to its location close to the equator.
