Regina Holidays Overview
Regina, the Queen City, is the 16th largest Canadian population centre and the second in the province of Saskatchewan. It is also the provincial capital. This city neighbors on the US states of Montana and North Dakota to its south. More than 300,000 trees and bushes were planted and cultivated here to transform the flat prairie land into an inviting environment. There are several historic areas dating back to the early days when a town was founded here in the 1880s. In 1903, it was given city status. Three years later it became provincial capital. The semi-arid climate is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The majority of the population is of varied European descent. Some 8% of the populace is aboriginal. There is a fairly rich cultural scene and a large part of the city’s lands are designated to parks and green spaces. There are 5 municipal golf courses. The Wascana Lake, in the heart of the city, serves as a vast recreation facility. It is surrounded by a 930-hectare park. A professional Canadian Football League team is based here as well as several non-professional teams. Sixteen bus routes compose the public transport system. Multi-use pathways crisscross the city. They are dedicated to pedestrians, cyclists and skaters. They become ski trails in the coldest months of the year. Self guided walking tour maps are available for the historic areas from City Hall. Hotels, motor inns, bed & breakfasts and campgrounds are all available for lodging. There are more than 80 dining options in the downtown area including several fine dining spots and a variety of international cuisine options.
