Panama City Holidays Overview
Panama City, Florida is located in the south central section of the panhandle in the northwest area of the state. It is between Pensacola and Tallahassee. Just under 40,000 people inhabit this Gulf Coast City in Bay County. Roughly 74% of the population is white and nearly 22% African American. Much of the remainder is of Latin American and Asian descent and the rest is Native American and of other races. The population is fairly young. Sitting on the St. Andrew’s Bay and the Gulf of Mexico makes it popular with beachgoers.
Two full marinas offer charter boats for fishing or deep sea sight seeing. There are 37 parks here for on-land sports and recreation as well. Several hotels and motels can be found offering rates for distinct budgets.
Approximately 10,000 people inhabit the adjoining Panama City Beach, a separate town often lumped together with the city. A number of high rise condos and luxury resort hotels can be found on this island, connected to the mainland by Highway 98. St. Andrew’s State Park is located here with over 485 hectares of territory to explore.
The beaches here are composed of white sand which eroded from quartz deposits in the Appalachian Mountains thousands of years ago. There are nearly 43.5 km of shoreline at Panama City Beach. The beaches here have made the number 1 spot on the list of America's Top Ten Beaches, selected annually by Florida Geologist Dr. Stephen Leaderman.
There are five 18-hole golf courses in the area, local shopping centres and several clubs. Dozens of restaurants offer a variety of cuisines, many featuring seafood. The warmest averge temperature in summer is 31 degrees Celsius. On the coolest winter nights the average low is degrees Celsius.
