Orange Holidays Overview
Orange is 261 km, or a 3 1/2 hour drive west from Sydney, and has a population of about 38 000. Interestingly, the region does not grow oranges, but half of the entire NSW apple crop instead. This city received its name in honour of the Prince of Orange, but was originally known as Blackman's Swamp. Orange is the largest city in the central western district of NSW, lying west of the Great Diving Range, and along with apples, produces wool, wine, lamb, and venison. Orange was settled in the 1820's, and has many beautiful historic buildings making up street scapes. Visitors to Orange can enjoy a vast array of foods and wines, natural beauty, heritage walks, parks, gardens, and the arts. Orange is known as the Colour City because it has 4 very distinct seasons, which can be admired any time of the year at the Botanic Gardens.
