Nice Holidays Overview
Located on the Cote d’Azur in the French Riviera, Nice enjoys an enviable sunny climate, and the blue waters of the Mediterranean. It has some superb beaches as well as a famous promenade and several good museums, galleries, gardens and parks. Nice is the perfect place to explore the French Riviera, with the delights of Monte Carlo and Cannes accessible on a day trip. The origins of Nice are not entirely clear. Some believe it was founded by the Greeks, who gave it the name Nikaia, meaning City of Victory, others think it was founded by the Marseillais around 350BC. What is clear is that Nice has formed the centre of a tug of war between France and Italy over the centuries, and the eagles head on its coat of arms changed direction several times, pointing to the right when Nice was part of France and left when it was part of Italy. Now firmly part of France, the economy of Nice is largely based on tourism.
