Newark Holidays Overview
Newark is the largest city in the state of New Jersey. It is located 12.87 km southwest of New York City. It is a major shipping port facility. NJ local train lines span off from Newark Penn Station. There is also a commuter train, the PATH, which links Newark with New York as well as Hoboken and Jersey City, two up and coming urban hubs located directly across the Hudson from lower Manhattan. In recent decades, the water front neighborhoods of these towns have had an economic boom. They have also become havens for young people living a heartbeat from New York but with slightly more affordable rents and expenses than in the city itself. In turn, this has brought a vast array of nightclubs and restaurants to these waterfront areas. Several luxury hotels have opened here in recent years with panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Newark itself is the 3rd largest centre for insurance companies in the United States despite being a city known for its impoverished African American community and famed for its riots in 1968. A number of Beau Arts architectural works from early in the 20th Century can be found on Newark’s main streets. Several museums are also here. There is extensive public transportation connecting Newark to its suburbs and surrounding areas.
