Nagoya Holidays Overview
The city of Nagoya is the fourth most populous city in Japan and the third largest in terms of physical size. It is located on the Pacific coast and is one of the major ports together with Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Osaka and Chibe. It is one of Japan’s major economic centres and home to giant car makers Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi. The city has traditionally been a manufacturing powerhouse. During the first world war it became known for its machinery foundries and exports of heavy machinery. The second world war saw Nagoya focus on armament production which made it a target for allied bombing. Much of its infrastructure was flattened by allied aerial bombers. The end of war saw a period of aggressive rebuilding making the city what it is today. The city has a population of about 2.5 million people which is made up of ethnic Japanese as the majority. There are also people of many other nationalities who live and work in Nagoya given that it is home to many multi national corporations such as Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Yamaha, NGK, Olympus Optical, Brother Industries and many more. Like many cities in Japan, the city experiences hot and humid summers. Temperatures are at their lowest in January and at their highest in August.
