Merimbula Holidays Overview
Merimbula is a popular holiday destination on the far south coast of NSW, known as the Sapphire Coast. This gorgeous beach town is about a 6 or 7 hour drive from both Sydney at 467km, and Melbourne at 596 km. Canberra is a lot closer at 241 km. Glorious clean blue beaches, lakes and rivers, make this a well loved destination for surfers, snorkelers, scuba divers, and fishermen. Those who like their outdoor sports are well catered for with bush walking, 2 golf courses, 2 bowling greens, and several locations of tennis courts.
Merimbula is a holiday spot that has something for people of every age. Along with gorgeous scenery, there is also plenty of native wildlife including penguins, dolphins, seals, whales and kangaroos. Whale and dolphin tours can be organized from Merimbula, and those wanting to see their marine life up close can also visit the Merimbula aquarium which has an awesome ocean tank and another 27 tanks.
Merimbula has a permanent population of about 4 000 locals.

Merimbula Jazz Festival is held on the Queen's birthday long weekend in June and has been running since 1981. Up to 130 jazz bands participate in the 3 day festival. Bands are not paid by the festival but instead pay a registration fee to perform, ensuring that only those who really want to perform and participate are in attendance. The Merimbula Jazz Festival is generally housed in about 6 venues around the town.

The Mambo Merimbula Malibu Surf Classic is held each May and is a must for all Malibu surfers, either as a contestant or to just enjoy the surfing spectacle. This surfing classic has been running for almost 20 years and attracts about 100 surfers each year. Men, women, juniors, and legends are all catered for. Up to $10 000 in prizes are up for grabs over the duration of the classic.
Mambo Classic Kite Surfing is the longest running wave-wind-surf-sail contest worldwide, running for 4 days at the end of November. Merimbula is an extremely popluar destination for kite surfing and there is always guaranteed to be plenty of spectacular action. Kite surfers, wind-surfers and stand up paddlers are all catered for in the event.
