Luang Prabang Holidays Overview
The town of Luang Prabang is located in North Central Laos and is the capital of the Province of Louangphrabang. Its population stands at roughly 100, 000. Luang Prabang was founded by Khun Lo, a Tai Prince and war lord in 698 A.D. Until the takeover by communism in 1975, Luang Prabang was the royal capital and the seat of government of the Laos Kingdom. The inhabitants of Luang Prabang are a blend of Khmers, Siamese, Burmese and Mongols. The area has beautiful landscapes and is mountainous. The Buddhist religion has influenced this region for centuries and this is evidenced in the architecture and art. This is probably the reason why Luang Prabang has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
