Port Lincoln is located on the Eyre Peninsula on the very sheltered Boston Bay, and is a major fishing town. Port Lincoln was discovered by Matthew Flinders in 1802 and was first settled in March 1839. Port Lincoln has a population of 14 000 and has the label 'Seafood Capital of Australia' with abalone, prawns, tuna, scale fish and lobster being the main catches. The region's agricultural produce includes beef, wool, lamb, and crops such as barley, oats, wheat and canola. Port Lincoln has a variety of attractions and activities for the holiday maker. There are many water activities involving fishing, including deep sea fishing charters. There are galleries, museums, restaurants, wineries, stunning National Parks, walking tracks, and plenty of marine and land wildlife to be seen. Tunarama. It wouldn't be a fishing town without a fishing festival. This festival is usually held around the Australia Day long weekend and has been going strong for more than 40 years. Catering to all age groups there are contests and free entertainment. Festival highlights include Crowning of the Festival Ambassador of the Year, the World Champion Tuna toss, a street procession, talent quest, movie night, a fabulous fireworks display off the jetty, and a seafood and wine Expo Sunday. holidays - How to Get There
FLIGHTS Rex Airlines provides a service between Adelaide and Port Lincoln which takes 45 minutes. Flights are provided up to 10 times a week day and 5 to 7 services daily on the weekends. Flights run regularly from Adelaide throughout the day starting at 7 am and finishing at 7.30 pm. Flights leaving Port Lincoln start at 7 am and go through until 8.45 pm.
