Leeds Bradford Holidays Overview
A former industrial town in West Yorkshire, Leeds is one of the more cosmopolitan cities in the North of England. It grew rapidly in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries due to the industrial revolution and its role in the cloth trade, and other industries based on steam engines, leather, chemicals and pottery.
The character of Leeds changed after the First Word War, with industry giving way to academia, as the city became known for its universities. These days Leeds is best described as a commercial centre, with retailing and offices providing the bulk of employment.
Leeds is a thriving modern city, with packed shopping streets and arcades, and all the major designer labels. The social scene is also lively with plenty of good bars, clubs and restaurants. Leeds makes a great base for exploring the rest of West Yorkshire.

Leeds Festival
Held during the last weekend in August, Leeds Festival is one of the UK’s biggest rock music festivals, attracting over fifty thousand music fans, and a line up of big name acts. The festival is spread over four stages in Braham Park, around ten miles from the city centre.

Wetherby Festival
A regular on the Leeds calendar since the 1970s, the Wetherby Festival is a unique arts festival organised by the local community, and combining a mixture of local amateur performers and international professionals. The festival takes place over three weeks in October, and includes regular events such as the Literary Lunch and performances by the Leeds Symphony Orchestra, as well as a variety of other musical and theatrical acts.

Leeds Shakespeare Festival
Held in the beautiful natural setting of Kirkstall Abbey Cloisters in July and August, the open air Leeds Shakespeare Festival features performances of various Shakespeare plays by members of the Royal Shakespeare Company in full Elizabethan costume, accompanied by live music.
