Krabi Holidays Overview

The city of Krabi is the capital of Krabi Province in Southern Thailand. It is located at the mouth of the Krabi River that flows into the Great Andaman Sea. It has a population of slightly over 25, 000 people and tourism is currently the main economic activity in this region of Thailand.
 
It is speculated that Krabi has the longest history of continued settlement in Thailand. It was thrust into prominence in the late eighteenth century when the then governor established an Elephant Kraal in Krabi to ensure a regular supply of Elephants to the capital Bangkok.

Krabi holidays - Top Events

Major events include the Andaman Sea festival in November which marks the beginning of the tourist season. During this festival, there are numerous cultural competitions and water festivals.
 
The Chao Le boat Festival takes place between June and November and is held by a sea faring nomadic people known as the Chao Le who are native inhabitants of Krabi.

Qantas operates direct flights to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok from Sydney Kingsford and Melbourne Tullamarine. Connecting flights from Suvarnabhumi to Krabi Airport are operated by Thai AirAsia and Thai Airways. A newly formed Thai airline to e known as Krabi Airline is scheduled to begin operating from Krabi airport as its main hub.
 
It takes an average of 9 hours to fly from Sydney to Bangkok and another 50 minutes from Bangkok to Krabi.
