Kerikeri (Bay of Islands) Holidays Overview
Kerkeri is located in the beautiful Bay of Island in New Zealand. The region is known for its horticulture, niche food, boutique vineyards and cafes. With 144 islands in the Bay of Islands, it is one of the best maritime parks in New Zealand. Captain James Cook discovered New Zealand in 1769 and settlement by Europeans happened shortly after. In 1772, French Navigator Marion de Fresne created conflict between the Maori and European settlers. Religious leaders followed in 1814 and were respected by the Maori Chiefs and European leaders within the settlement. The Bay of Islands was the birthplace of New Zealand as we know it today. Once a seafaring and political base, today it is a place for holiday fun and water adventures. Enjoy the Kerikeri Arts and Craft Trail or catch a steamboat ride at the historical Stone Store Basin. There are many activities in Kerikeri and a heritage rich holiday. http://www.tourism.net.nz/region/northland/northland---bay-of-islands
