Dampier Holidays Overview
Dampier is on the Coral Coast of Western Australia and is 1,558 kilometres from Perth. King Bay is on the town’s doorstep and opens up to the Dampier Archipelago containing 42 islands, outcrops and islets. The coral reef and shipwrecks are a popular destination for fishermen and divers. Named after English explore William Dampier, the town and nearby Archipelago are a must see on your itinerary. Splash around in the beachfront ocean pool, enjoy the picnic and barbecue facilities to name a few. Home to several endangered species, 25 of the islands in the Dampier Archipelago are now nature reserves. Initially constructed as a port and processing centre for Hamersley Irons mines, Dampier has grown and is now home to the Dampier Salt Company which is Australia’s largest producer of salt. Explore the region and rediscover the magnificent indigenous rock art. http://www.discoverwest.com.au/western_australia/dampier.html http://www.tourism.wa.gov.au
