Ibiza Holidays Overview
Once known for its historic interest, and beautiful beaches, Ibiza is one of Spain’s Balearic Islands, and is now better known as the clubbing capital of the world. Just about all the well known house DJs play in Ibiza during the summer months, attracting floods of visitors, but if you visit during the winter you’ll find a much more peaceful island. Ibiza was initially settled by the Greeks, who valued it for its salt, and then occupied by the Romans, but from medieval times until the 1950s was of relatively little significance. After this time it was discovered by beatniks and hippies who turned it into their ultimate hide away, until the clubbing scene took over and rampant development with great prosperity followed. Ibiza is best explored by car or on a moped. In addition to Ibiza Town itself and some of the larger resorts, there are several pretty villages with typical Ibizan architecture and whitewashed churches to the North and West of the island.
