Honiara Holidays Overview
Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands and is in the Guadalccanal province. Located on the northern coast of the island of Guadalcanal, Honiara has a sea port at Point Cruz. A tropical climate year round, Honiara is an ideal holiday destination.
The Solomon Islands were named by a Spanish Explorer, Alvaro de Mendana de Neira in 1568. Finding alluvial gold on Guadalcanal, he believed that he had found the biblical King Solomonís Gold Mine. The islands have been inhabited for thousands of years initially by settlers from New Guinea. In the 1800s the islands became a resource for trade in labourers with the British taking islanders for work in Fiji and the sugar plantations in Australia.
Today, Honaira is a popular holiday destination. Experience the traditional beliefs and cultures among the islanders. Some Solomon Islanders still maintain traditional lifestyles and religious beliefs in small villages. Bushwalking is a popular activity with many water sports to choose from. Enjoy this cultural wonderland on your next holiday.

Over 300 runners from Australia and locals compete in the Guadalcanal Half Marathon in October. If you are more a spectator, then enjoy the food and drink before joining in the celebration festival at the King Solomon Hotel. This is a truly enjoyable event to put on your holiday itinerary.
