Hayman Island Holidays Overview
Hayman Island is located in the magnificent Great Barrier Reef and is part of the Whitsunday Islands. The Hayman experience is like no other. The resort is surrounded by the southern palm fringed shores, lush tropical gardens and sweeping sandy beaches. The 800 metre wide sand flat reaches out from the beaches to the coral reef. The marine life amongst the coral and the crystal clear aquamarine waters are spectacular.
The Hayman Island story began in 1866 when it was first named by Commander Nares of the Salamander in honour of his navigator, Thomas Hayman, Master RN. Starting life as a biological research laboratory in 1933, the lease of the Island has changed hands many times. In 1950 the Royal Hayman Hotel was opened and quickly earned a reputation as Australia’s foremost leisure and honeymoon destination with international recognition. Today, Hayman Island Resort is regarded as one of the best resorts in the world.
A holiday on Hayman Island will not be quickly forgotten. Abundant wildlife including White Cockatoos, Painted Lorikeets, Kookaburras and Herons are a birdwatchers paradise. There are colonies of endangered Proserpine Rock Wallies which are part of an ongoing breeding program jointly with Queensland Parks and Wildlife. Surrounded by water, enjoy the many water sports available, swim amongst the kaleidoscope of tropical fish darting around the coral. Take home memories to last you a lifetime.
