Hannover Holidays Overview
Hanover is the capital of Lower Saxony in the north west of Germany. Best known for its communications trade show, CeBIT, Hanover also has plenty to offer those interested in nature and culture, from the baroque Herrenhauser Garten, to the Eilenreide forest. The museums and art galleries are also first class.
Even though Hanover was heavily bombed during the Second World War, many of the city’s pre-war architectural gems have been reconstructed, including the opera house and town hall. Many other less significant buildings were also partly reconstructed in the traditional half timbered style.
In recent years, as well as the CeBIT show and other trade fairs, Hanover hosted Expo 2000 which attracted around eighteen million visitors. It was also one of the cities chosen to host 2006 Football World Cup matches.

CeBIT Trade Show
The CeBIT communications trade show takes place each year in the Spring and is organised by Deutsche Messe AG. The exhibitions are targeted at home as well as industrial use. The event takes place over five days and there is a different central theme each year. The programme includes a variety of events and conferences as well as the exhibitions.
One of the biggest summer festivals in North Germany, the festival is held along the shore of the lake, and boats move visitors easily between the events. The festival runs for twenty days in August and is opened and closed by spectacular fireworks displays. There is a varied combination of comedy, music, street parades and theatre, as well as special events for children.
International Fireworks Competition
Held in the Baroque Garden of the Herrenhauser Garten, this spectacular event sees five pyrotechnic teams each putting on a twenty five minute display. Part of the display follows an obligatory programme and the rest is free style. Teams are awarded points for correct execution, interpretation of the music, consideration of the surroundings, and the quality and diversity of the effects used.
