Hannover Holidays Overview
Hanover is the capital of Lower Saxony in the north west of Germany. Best known for its communications trade show, CeBIT, Hanover also has plenty to offer those interested in nature and culture, from the baroque Herrenhauser Garten, to the Eilenreide forest. The museums and art galleries are also first class. Even though Hanover was heavily bombed during the Second World War, many of the city’s pre-war architectural gems have been reconstructed, including the opera house and town hall. Many other less significant buildings were also partly reconstructed in the traditional half timbered style. In recent years, as well as the CeBIT show and other trade fairs, Hanover hosted Expo 2000 which attracted around eighteen million visitors. It was also one of the cities chosen to host 2006 Football World Cup matches.
