Grafton Holidays Overview
Grafton is a picturesque country town on the New South Wales North Coast along the Clarence River. Popular for its sugar cane plantations, Grafton is famous for the Jacaranda lined street that flower into a spectacular cascade of Mauve each year. Other calls to fame are the graceful old buildings and its location on the banks of the Clarence River.
Home to the Gumbaingirr peoples at the time of European settlement, it is believed that the first European visitors to the area were escaped convicts from Moreton Bay in the late 1820s and early 1830s. Settlement in the region eventually followed with the town of Clarence River was named in 1839 and the township named in 1849.
Stroll through the town and enjoy the beautifully preserved heritage buildings. Visit the Gallery, sit by the river and enjoy a picnic. Grafton is a hub for the region and they enjoy a good festival. Take time to explore this region and take home many memorable moments.

The Grafton Artsfest is a smorgasbord of creativity and is held each October. With a large program of events and workshops, there is a medium for everyone. Enjoy browsing the art on display or participate in one of the workshops. Over 50 workshops are held during the 6 days. Choose your favourite art medium such as watercolour, pastels, oils, drawing, glass, jewellery, sculpture and woodwork. If you are interested in exploring a different style of art, try out the workshops in writing, textiles, and the youth and performing arts program.

Grafton is a rural region and it would not be complete without the Grafton Agricultural Show held in April. Two days of fun and excitement. The kids will love the sideshows, showbags and baby farm animals. For the bigger kids, yes mum and dad, stroll through the many farm displays, exhibitions, equestrian events and food stalls. Enjoy this fantastic weekend with the family and friends.
A yearly event in October is the Jacaranda Festival. Taking its name from the beautiful trees that line the streets of Grafton, this is a festival celebrating the magnificent spectacle of the hundreds of lilac blossomed trees. There are so many events as part of the festival such as the High Fashion Runway Show, window displays, Jacaranda Children’s Party, Jacaranda Ball, Parade of Youth and Banner Competition, Exhibition of Gardens and the Celebration of Wooden Boats.

Regional Express Airlines provides daily flights between Grafton and Sydney. Qantas and Virgin Blue provide daily flights into Ballina/Byron Airport and Coffs Harbour Regional Airport. Airport transfers are available from Ballina and Coffs Harbour airports to Grafton.
