Gold Coast Holidays Overview
The Gold Coast is famous for its sun, surf and sand with over 57 kilometres of coastline to choose from. Secreted away behind the glitz and glamour of the coast strip, there stretches the hinterland with pockets of lush rainforest and beautiful mountains and valleys. Choices are endless between going for a swim, a round of golf, seeing the theme parks or having a picnic in a beautiful setting, take your pick. Over 6,000 years ago, the Gold Coast’s indigenous people left their mark on this land. Explore the heritage in this diverse region. At Burleigh Heads, the Kombumerri people once feasted. Mt. Cougal and Springbrooks’ valleys were home to the Yugambeh people. European settlement of the area began with the establishment of cattle stations during the 1860s and then later sugar, cotton and dairy farms. The rise of timber milling in the hinterland progressed over the next 100 years. Today, the Gold Coasts main industry is tourism and it is one of Australia’s premier holiday destinations. The beach going culture of the Gold Coast has not abated over the years, if anything they are still sun and wave worshipers. Life Saving and surfing are both institutions on the Gold Coast. The natural wonders on the doorstep of the Gold Coast in the hinterland, are popular with tourists and locals including regular visitors from Brisbane and Northern New South Wales. A holiday wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Gold Coast. http://www.verygoldcoast.com.au/
