A vacation in Gladstone won’t be a quick visit. Located just 107 kilometres south of Rockhampton, Gladstone is an enchanting slice of heaven. There is so much to see, the region is home to the world’s most amazing attractions. From National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef, to festivals and hinterland adventures, not to mention some of Queensland’s best seafood. The choice is endless. Laze the day away on the beach or take in a few of the historical sites in Gladstone and the surrounding region. Gladstone is one of Queensland’s best kept holiday secrets. Take a trip out to the reef to see the spectacular coral or do a spot of fishing. Relax, unwind and enjoy the unspoilt beauty that Gladstone has to offer. First sighted by Captain Cook in 1770, he named the area south of the city Bustard head. In 1802, Matthew flinders followed and named Port Curtis. John Oxley explored the coastline in 1823. It wasn’t until 1847 that the first settlement of Gladstone and the town was named after William Ewart Gladstone, the British Colonial Secretary. Today, Gladstone is a thriving community and a popular holiday destination. http://www.gladstoneholidays.info/index.cfm
