Gisborne is a beautiful seaside town on the East Coast of the North Island, New Zealand. It’s call to fame is that Gisburne is the first city in the world to see the sun each day. Break away from the grind of the big city and enjoy the relaxing lifestyle of this town.
Nearby Kaiti Beach is the first European landing place in New Zealand. Captain Cook first set foot here in 1769. Settlement in the area was not established till 1831 and the town that developed was named Gisborne in 1870 and eventually became a city in 1955.
The rich alluvial river flats combined with the mild temperatures make this region ideal for agriculture. A wealth of produce is available such as maize, grapes, kiwifruit, citrus and subtropical fruits. Pinus Radiata forests throughout the region is now a major land use with the hilly country more suited for grazing of cattle, sheep, deer and goats.
