Geraldton Holidays Overview
Geraldton is located in the heart of the Batavia Coast of Western Australia and is four and a half hours drive from Perth. Known as the ‘Sun City’, Geraldton’s near perfect lifestyle offers a temperate climate with a range of activities available. Renowned world wide for the quality rock lobster from the coastal waters, it is considered that the pristine waters along the Batavia Coast near Geraldton are the reason. As a port city, Geraldton is the centre of many industries such as fishing, manufacturing, construction, agriculture and tourism. ‘Chasers of the Wind’, that is windsurfers are attracted to this region because of the perfect conditions.
Early explorations into the region brought mixed reactions. In 1839, George Grey’s report that there were good pastures stimulated initial interest. A few ventured into the area, with a report by Captain Stokes of the HMS Beagle reporting that he thought the area was dry, delayed establishment of a town for several years. After much discussion and debate, the town was finally established in 1849 and named Geraldton.

Geraldton-Greenough Sunshine Festival
The Geraldton-Greenough Sunshine Festival is a celebration of culture and you to join them in enjoying good music, art and culture with the blue skies over the Indian Ocean in the background. What more could you ask for? Line up to watch floats in the parade, cheer on your favourite in the dragon boat races, get artistic in the sand castle competition. Evening brings its own entertainments with the ‘Artrageous Night on the Mall’ and the big sky show finale.

Chapman Valley Agriculture Show
A true rural event, the Chapman Valley Agriculture Show in September promotes local industries and hobbies in the region. Enjoy the showing of livestock and equestrian events such as hacks, showjumping, western and cutting. Browse through the stalls of local produce and craft. How good are your maths skills? Try the sheep counting competition. The fun doesn’t stop with live entertainment on stage, children’s workshop, sideshow alley, showbags, games and rides.

Airing of the Quilts festival
In October, the Airing of the Quilts festival at Northampton is only 51 kilometres north of Geraldton. It has become an annual tradition and showcases this historical town and the surrounding region. Quilters and textile artists in the region come together to share their quilts in all shapes, sizes and colours as they blow in the breeze. Take a look at the exhibits of sewing machines as early as 1893 and a tapestry and doll exhibition. Market stalls with craft and accessories are definitely worth a look. Enjoy this great family day out for everyone.
