Exeter Holidays Overview
Located on the stunning East Devon coast, and the estuary of the River Exe, Exmouth is well known for its two glorious miles of golden sandy beaches. Cliff walks with stunning views over the bay will appeal to adults, while children may prefer to play in the many rock pools and sand dunes along the beach. Bustling shopping streets and nearby picturesque villages make Exmouth a perfect base to explore East Devon. Exmouth is surrounded by the beautiful natural landscapes such as Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks, and is just minutes from the stretch of coast known as the English Riviera, including towns such as Torquay and Paignton. Exmouth marks the beginning of the UNESCO designated Devon Heritage Coast which stretches east to Dorset.

Exmouth illuminated carnival The Exmouth carnival is a fun annual event held in October that features an illuminated procession of competing light displays. There are three categories for single entries, small team floats and large displays. The carnival procession begins at Marine Way and continues along Exeter Road through the town centre, past the Strand Gardens and ends at the Manor Gardens fountain. http://www.exmouth.gov.uk/Core/Exmouth/Pages/Carnival_3.aspx Exmouth Christmas Swim Hundreds of the brave inhabitants of Exmouth take to the freezing sea every year at 11am on Christmas morning for what may be the largest Christmas swim in the country. The swimmers, many of whom are in fancy dress for the occasion, all run into the sea at the same moment. The event takes place just in front of the Clock Tower, and thousands of spectators come to watch the swimmers both from the land and from boats on the sea. http://www.exmouth.gov.uk/Core/Exmouth/Pages/Exmouth_Christmas_Swim_3.aspx Spirit of the Exe A new annual festival, launched in 2009, the Spirit of the Exe celebrates the Exe Estuary and the natural wildlife that it supports. Thousands of visitors flocked to the first festival of its kind which included family entertainment, tasting mussels, oysters and cockles from the Exe, and an Exe Estuary art competition. http://www.exe-estuary.org/index/event_calendar/spirit_of_the_exe_-_an_exe-travaganza.htm
