Rome -Ciampino Holidays Overview
The capital of Italy, and for five hundred years the capital of the world’s greatest empire, Rome has a long and colourful history. As one of the most visited cities in the world, it is wise to book accommodation in advance, especially during the summer months. Magnificent monuments such as the Pantheon and Colosseum, as well as the nearby Vatican City, give visitors the feeling of walking through a living museum. Like all Italians, Romans take their food very seriously, and local dishes include spaghetti all’amatriciana (with tomato, chilli, onion and sausage), and saltimbocca (veal with ham). Local ice cream bars, or gelaterie, are also well worth visiting. In recent years Roma has undergone a major clean up and modernisation, and some fear that this will spoil its ramshackle character, but for tourists it has never looked better. A three day pass is available that includes the majority of museums and exhibitions, although most of these are closed on a Monday.

I Concerti nel Parco During June and July a festival including theatrical productions and art exhibitions takes place in Villa Doria Pamphilj, the area opposite the Casa dei Teatri. In the event of bad weather, performances move to the Teatro Vascello which is a ten minute walk away. http://www.iconcertinelparco.it/ Festa de Noantri In June there is an eight day Roman street party in Trastvere including street theatre and markets. It is held to pay homage to the Madonna at the Church of San Crisongo, which is paraded through the streets by monks. Legend has it that fishermen on the River Tiber caught a statue of a Madonna in their nets, and transfixed by its beauty, set it in their local church as an object of veneration. http://www.festadenoantri.it/festadenoantri.html Romaeuropa Festival In November Rome hosts an international festival of art, music, dance and theatre, run by the Romaeuropa Foundation. It has been running since the late 1980s and attracts thousands of performers and spectators.
