Ceduna Holidays Overview
Ceduna is located on the Far Western Coast of South Australia. On the main route to Adelaide and then the Eastern States, Ceduna is a solitary hub town. The name Ceduna was taken from the Aboriginal word ‘Chedoona’ and means ‘to sit down and rest’. Any traveller crossing the Nullarbor will welcome the opportunity to ‘sit down and rest’ in Ceduna.
A visit out to Ceduna is worthwhile with the spectacular beaches edged with isolated bushland. Far from the bustling city life, it is uncrowded and unique. Enjoy the whales as they play of shore from the Head of Bight in the winter and the fishing is good all year round. Head inland for a comfortable drive to the Gawler Rangers or take in the surf at Cactus Beach.
The region of Ceduna was originally home to the Anangu people. The atomic tests carried out by the British Government in the 1940s to 1950s north of Ceduna at Maralinga and Emu caused them to vacate their traditional home for many years. Today, artefacts of radioactive inert objects are a unique feature at the Ceduna Schoolhouse Museum in the Maralinga Room.
