Cedar Rapids Holidays Overview
Cedar Rapids is 32 km north of Iowa City in the Midwestern US state of Iowa. It is the second largest city in the state, with roughly 130,000 inhabitants. Ninety two per cent of residents are white. The white population is far from homogenous, with representation of immigrants and their descendants from a diversity of European nations. It is home to one of the first permanent mosques in the US, which opened for worship in 1934. The 4-quadrant grid that composes the city has 12 formal neighborhoods. Czech Village, an enclave of Czech immigrant families, is at the heart of the downtown. There are numerous non-professional sporting teams here and a vibrant cultural scene. There are dozens of options for dining out and spending an evening on the town including the Cedar Ridge Vineyards. This is home to the only distillery in the state of Iowa. There are 36 hotels and other accommodations offered in and near this city. Twenty golf courses and 3 country clubs are right here, as well as hundreds of park in and around town. Many of them have hiking, outdoor recreation and camping options. A number of museums and historic sites are also found. The name of this city was derived from the Cedar River, which runs through the middle of this population centre. The Fox and Sac aboriginal people’s lived here prior to the arrival of the first European settler in 1838.
