Carnarvon Holidays Overview
Carnarvon is a tropical oasis located approximately 900 kilometres north of Perth on the west coast of Western Australia. It is a truly memorable holiday, with many attractions and wonderful places to visit. More commonly known for its tropical fruits, seafood, and banana plantations, it is an ideal base to explore surrounding Gascoyne region. Founded in 1883, Carnarvon started its existence as a port and supply centre for the surrounding region. The town was officially gazetted in 1891. The Carnarvon Heritage Precinct is on the original site of the port with the lighthouse and jetty built in 1897. Sited at the mouth of the Gascoyne River, Carnarvon is a coastal town and is renowned for its quality fishing. Alternatives to fish and equally high quality and available is the thriving prawn, scallop and crab industry. During May to October, freshly caught seafood is easily available. http://www.carnarvon.org.au
