Bordeaux Holidays Overview
Located on the lower Atlantic coast, Bordeaux is the capital of the French Aquitaine region and is the largest urban World Heritage site. It underwent a major revamp in the first few years of the new millennium, when the central boulevards were pedestrianised, architectural gems were restored, and a state of the art public transport system was installed. Bordeaux is best known for its high quality wines, which were made popular by the English when they governed the Aquitaine region from the twelfth to the fifteenth century. Once known as La Belle au Bois Dormant, or Sleeping Beauty, Bordeaux is no longer a sleepy laid back town, but a vibrant city with a booming tourist trade and a lively student population.
