Belfast Holidays Overview

Belfast is the capital city of Northern Ireland, and was built around the boat building business. Initially settled as a safe haven for ships looking for respite from Atlantic storms, Belfast became a busy sea port and a ship building centre by the early twentieth century. The city suffered as the shipbuilding industry declined, and the Belfast Blitz during the Second World War destroyed much of the centre. The late 1960s saw the onset of the Troubles, which carried on into the 1990s. The Belfast of today has seen a remarkable transformation, and a great deal of money has been invested in the city to make it a hub of art, culture, and fashion. The streets are lined with trendy bars and restaurants, superb shopping centres, and top class visitors attractions. Belfast is a party city with festivals every month and a vibrant clubbing and live music scene. The most attractive part of Belfast, however, remains its people, whose warmth and friendliness never changes.
