Abu Dhabi Holidays Overview
With a population of close to 1.5 million, Abu Dhabi is one of the world's most modern cities. Home to the headquarters of various oil companies and numerous embassies, the city is known for its multi-national vibrant life as well as its luxury and shopping opportunities.
Abu Dhabi features green, wide boulevards, large parks, high rise buildings, shopping malls and luxury hotels. While many might find Abu Dhabi lacking in the style that its neighbour Dubai is so known for, the city has changed for good in the recent years. With alcohol restrictions loosened and investments increasing, tourism has boomed.
The principle areas in Abu Dhabi are the Corniche, Khalifa Street, Hamdan Street and Sheikh Zayed Street. Abu Dhabi has transformed itself from a desert city to the green oasis visitors enjoy today. The Corniche district features a spectacular waterfront with a walkway and stretches of sandy beaches.
Abu Dhabi is also a shopper's dream. It has luxurious malls and independent stores throughout the city. The local souks offer antiques, native jewellery, art and carpets amidst vibrant colours and a festive atmosphere. It is also home to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, one of the most important and opulent architectural landmarks in UAE.
The nightlife in Abu Dhabi is concentrated around the hotels of the city since alcohol can only be legally served in the restaurants and bars located in hotels. However, there is an abundance of high end bars and night clubs like Hemingway's, Rock Bottom and Sax in Abu Dhabi that provide good food, drinks and music.
