Australia's Hobart is the state capital of Tasmania. It is served by Hobart International Airport, with regular flights to and from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Canberra. There is a ferry terminal in Devonport, and it is roughly a four hour drive to then reach Hobart. With many of the prime attractions fairly spread out, cars and buses are really the only viable options to get around the area.
The weekend markets at Salamanca are colourful, lively, and crammed with delights. The nearby Battery Point is a pretty area, filled with old buildings and interesting architecture. There are a handful of museums worth visiting. Runnymede is an excellent example of a colonial home. The botanical gardens are nice, with the novel sub Antarctic gardens. Visit the pretty parrots at the Domain and enjoy the views from Mount Wellington.
Chocoholics will love Cadbury's Chocolate Factory, and various wineries and the Cascade Brewery are great for those who like a tipple or two. Wrest Point Casino offers heaps of fun. A cruise around Peppermint Bay is a fantastic excursion from Hobart.
There are many places to eat – make sure you try some locally caught seafood, and the Tasmanian specialities of deep sea trevalla and lobster. There are several pubs and bars, and a selection of places to sleep.
