London Gatwick Flights Guide

London Gatwick, United KingdomLondon Gatwick, IATA code LGW, serves the UK capital of London and surrounding areas. It takes its name from a monor house that formerly sat on the site, and the De Gatwick Family used to own the land.

It is located in Crawley in the county of West Sussex and is 48 kilometres outside of Central London. It is the second busiest airport in the UK.

It is a base for several airlines, and operates flights to a large number of global and domestic destinations. Amongst the busiest international destinations are Spain, Ireland, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

There are two terminals, called North and South. Each terminal contains good facilities and amenities for passengers, including shops, cafes, restaurants, and comfortable waiting areas. There are several business lounges, as well as a business and conference centre. There is an independent VIP lounge for passengers, accessible for a fee. There is a multi-faith prayer room in each terminal and every day there are services that welcome all faiths. There are resident Catholic, Anglican, and Free Church chaplains. Each terminal offers full disabled access. .

There are a number of hotels in and around the airport; these include executive hotels and a capsule hotel. Some hotels in the local area offer parking facilities for travellers with shuttle services to and from the airport.

The airport has two runways, although only one can be used at any given time. There are restrictions on flights at night, with noisy aircraft unable to take off from or land at Gatwick Airport. The airport operates a body scanner as part of its security regime.

London Gatwick is accessible by road from junction 9A of the M23 Motorway. The M23 connects with the major M25 Motorway, also known as the London Orbital. The airport railway station is situated in the South Terminal. Services run along the Brighton Main Line. Stations include London Victoria, London Bridge, Brighton, Eastbourne, Worthing, Portsmouth, and Bognor Regis. Direct trains also operate to Luton Airport and Reading. It is possible to travel to Heathrow Airport by bus, where there are bus and coach services available to most parts of the country.
