Mughal Delhi welcomes us with its vibrant contrast between old and new. In the holy city of Varanasi beats India's spiritual heart, as Hindu pilgrims descend on the banks of the Ganges River performing traditional rituals that date back centuries. The iconic Taj Mahal in Agra stands as a testament to love in a bygone era, but continues to inspire eternal passion amongst all who view it. Fatehpur Sikri stands solemn as a deserted city frozen in time. At Karauli we walk amidst forts, temples, decorated gardens and small villages and discover the soul of Rajasthan away from crowds of tourists. The ‘Pink City' of Jaipur offers the imposing Amber Fort and the Palace of the Winds. We may well find the most valuable 'jewels' in the small town of Mandawa. In this charming little rural place, we stay in an ornate 'haveli' that is full of art and history. A camel ride and a magical night camping in the desert showcase the wild frontier regions. Golden Jaisalmer evokes images of the legends of the old trading days, whilst the Mehrangarh Fort stands as a sentinel in Jodhpur. Ghanerao is sure to be a favourite for photographers. Rajasthani women in full regalia, brilliant sunsets and cobblestone alleyways all combine to set a wonderful scene. Udaipur is a romantic as well as beautiful city and we have plenty of time to visit its palaces and enjoy a nice drink as the sun sets over Lake Pichola.
