Cape Town Flights Guide

Cape Town, South AfricaCape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa. Interestingly, South Africa also has another two capital cities – Pretoria, which is the administrative capital, and Bloemfontain, which is the judicial capital.

Overlooked by the awesome Table Mountain and near to the Cape of Good Hope, Cape Town is near to beaches, wine production areas, and stunning scenery. It is crammed with historical and cultural places and has a pulsating night life. It also has a large gay scene.

The city is served by Cape Town International Airport. Inter-city trains link the city to various other places within South Africa. Cruise ships often visit the city. Bus services are also available to domestic destinations and Namibia. Road conditions are good, making driving fairly easy. Visitors should be aware though of the risk of car-jackings, especially at night.

To get around Cape Town, metered taxis are widely available. Minibus taxis are not recommended for visitors. Bus services are available, and there are rail services. Trains can be dangerous and of a low quality. Scooters and bicycles are another way to get out and about in Cape Town.

Riding a cable car to the top of Table Mountain is a must do experience. Rock rabbits inhabit the flat top, there is a café, and the views are spectacular. Active individuals can climb the mountain; Platteklip Gorge is the most popular way to reach the summit.

You can see penguins in the wild at Boulders, and seals basking on the rocks at the waterfront.

The Castle of Good Hope is South Africa's oldest remaining building. Inside the impressive building is a museum. The City Hall is another great building. The Bo-Kaap neighbourhood contains colourful structures, charming streets, mosques, and delicious street food. It has a distinctly Asian feeling.

Robben Island was where political prisoners were detained during the apartheid era. Take a tour to see the scenic area and learn about its history. Another fantastic tour is around the Winelands; make sure you try some locally produced wines. Safaris to spot the Big Five are possible within a couple of hours' drive from Cape Town.

Surfing and kite surfing are possible on the beaches. Diving and fishing are also available.
