Beirut Flights Guide

Beirut, LebanonBeirut is the capital city of Lebanon. It sits alongside the Mediterranean Sea. The population is diverse, and Beirut offers, therefore, a very mixed cultural experience. Despite previous troubles, Beirut is now a relatively safe place to visit and tourism is increasing.

Beirut Rafik Hariri International Airport is the only international airport in Lebanon. Buses link Beirut and Damascus, as well as other places in the south of the country. Roads run from Beirut through all cities along the coast. There are land border crossings with Syria.

To get around Beirut, taxis are common. Shared taxis are also available. There are also numerous bus routes. The city centre is easy to explore by foot.

Things to see in and around Beirut include the natural stone arch of Pigeon Rocks, the fascinating limestone caves at Jeita Grotto, the Martyr's Statue, and the charming Place d'Etoile. Beirut contains several great museums and galleries. Some of the best include the National Museum of Beirut, the Beirut Art Center, Matignon Gallery, the Sursock Museum, and the AUB Museum.

You can watch pure Arabian horses race every Sunday at the Beirut Hippodrome. Along the coast there are several beach clubs, some with pools and paved sunbathing terraces. Beirut offers excellent scuba diving opportunities. You can explore wrecks, visit underwater historical sites complete with stone columns, pathways, and pieces of pottery, discover caves and canyons, see natural rock walls, and watch a variety of colourful and interesting marine life.

Traditional Lebanese fare offers a fusion of Arab, Turkish, and Mediterranean influences, and is famous for being delicious and healthy. International cuisine is also available. You can find a selection of pubs and clubs on Monot Street, and a variety of pubs at Gemmayze.
