Austin Flights Guide

Austin, USAAustin is a huge city in the US state of Texas. It is known for its live music scene and alternative cultural experiences.

The Texas State Capitol is a major attraction in Austin. Open seven days of the week, it is as interesting inside as it is outside. The exterior is beautiful, with pink granite and decorative touches. Inside you will find a variety of sculptures and paintings as well as being able to look inside the legal chambers.

For local history, head to McKinney Falls State Park.

The university area offers numerous things for visitors to do and see. As well as the main university buildings, some of which are quite pretty, you can also enjoy the Texas Memorial Museum of Science and Industry, the Blanton Museum of Art, the Harry Ransom Center, and some excellent and striking public art. You can take a tour to the top of the University of Texas Tower for great views.

Visit Congress Avenue Bridge to see colonies of bats. Try and visit at dusk when the numerous bats leave their hang out spots for the night in forage of food and drink. They flit and streak across the darkening sky, creating rather an impressive sight.

Old and young alike will enjoy Austin Zoo and Barton Springs Pool. Other Austin attractions include the Aburetum, Round Rock, and a selection of theatres. For something different, you can join a spooky ghost tour! Wine tours and brewery visits are available.

At night time, check out some of the terrific live music venues across the city.

Austin is served by Austin Bergstrom International Airport, rail services to Chicago and San Antonio, and buses to other areas within the state. There are also buses that cross the border and arrive at a variety of Mexican destinations. There are a number of bus routes in and around the city. Taxis are available but they must be ordered by telephone – they cannot be hailed on the streets. Whilst the roads can be busy and congested, driving around Austin is fairly straight forward. If you go out at night and have a few drinks you can call for a free driver to take you home. This is an effort to prevent dangerous drink driving in the city.
