The university area offers numerous things for visitors to do and see. As well as the main university buildings, some of which are quite pretty, you can also enjoy the Texas Memorial Museum of Science and Industry, the Blanton Museum of Art, the Harry Ransom Center, and some excellent and striking public art. You can take a tour to the top of the University of Texas Tower for great views.
Visit Congress Avenue Bridge to see colonies of bats. Try and visit at dusk when the numerous bats leave their hang out spots for the night in forage of food and drink. They flit and streak across the darkening sky, creating rather an impressive sight.
Old and young alike will enjoy Austin Zoo and Barton Springs Pool. Other Austin attractions include the Aburetum, Round Rock, and a selection of theatres. For something different, you can join a spooky ghost tour! Wine tours and brewery visits are available.
At night time, check out some of the terrific live music venues across the city.
Austin is served by Austin Bergstrom International Airport, rail services to Chicago and San Antonio, and buses to other areas within the state. There are also buses that cross the border and arrive at a variety of Mexican destinations. There are a number of bus routes in and around the city.
