Amman is home to some legacies from the Roman Empire. These include the Roman Theatre, the Temple of Hercules, and the Nymphaeum.
A main city attraction is the striking Ummayad Palace. As well as the palace itself, you can also admire sweeping views. The Citadel is another place of interest, sitting at the heart of both the ancient and the modern city. Good views are also available from here.
Other places of interest include the city's watchtower, an old Byzantine church, the indoor climbing centre, Rainbow Street, and the small artistic houses at Jabal el Weibdeh. The Jordan Museum and the National Archaeological Museum are both worth a peek.
Amman offers a diverse drinking and dining scene. Make sure that you try some of the local brew – Petra Beer. The city has a lively and varied night life, and a firm favourite is the cultural show at the Tourist Cafe. Here you can watch traditional dancing and listen to traditional music and singing. You can even join in if you like!
