The Addis Ababa Museum contains many exhibits from the local area. The Red Terror Museum provides insight into the Derg regime that led to the brutal famine and starvation of a nation in the 1990s.

At Shiro Meda you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of the open air market, peruse a variety of items, and pick up some excellent hand made souvenirs. Other places for shopping include Edna Mall, Shiromeda Market, and the Getu Commercial Centre.

Ethiopian traditional cuisine is very tasty, and you should definitely try the national dish of Injera. The national drink is brewed using honey. There are many good places to sleep in the city.

A major gateway to the city is Bole International Airport. It operates flights across the country, to other African cities, and a number of places in Europe, Asia, and the USA. The majority of the roads are in decent condition, and buses connect the capital to almost all major locations in the country. Within the city you can hop on a minibus, take a taxi, and walk around the main city areas.
